Focused on Art Classes

The first month of the new year has not left me as idle as I would like to have been =)  I think January loans itself to a quiet restful month which I love to relish. I still haven't found the time to look at my garden catalogs, one of my usual January pursuits.  I started teaching again and had to put some effort into prepping for some new classes.  Two of my four classes are new this year in that I am calling them advanced.  I have taught some of these kids for 3 or 4 years now. I have taught them my whole bag of drawing tricks so to speak.  So I decided since this will be my last year with this group, I wanted to explore color and painting with them. Only problem is that I really only know how to paint with oils, and using them in our classroom situation is impossible.  So we are on a journey together of discovering watercolors =>  So here is my attempt at our first lesson.

half way through...the question is when to stop?
Here is Nita Leland's website where she shares this lesson.  I am relying heavily on other people's experience here. I can't wait to see what the kids do.  I will bring my camera tomorrow and share the fun with you later.

ha,ha I feel like I reverted to my 70's pop art

Some are mentioning that they would like to try it. In comments I give Judy the materials list. Then click on Nita's website above for instructions. It is easy and fun! But you must show me yours if you do give it a go ;>

I love this! Beautiful work. :) And thanks so much for the watercolor link you left me at my blog (the woman you mention here). I bought some new watercolors just today!

Ohhh...I love it! Is there any chance you could teach your classes on-line as well? That looks like a fun art project...and if I knew what supplies I needed...I might just give it a try.

Judy: What a sweet comment. I used Arches 140lb cold press paper, professional grade watercolors and a sharpie fine point marker. The instructions are on the link that I mentioned. All things can be gotten at a craft store. You can also use student grade watercolors, just be aware that the colors are not as rich because they use filler. Prang is a reliable brand. The Arches paper is the important thing here. Buy a full sheet and just fold and tear for the neat deckled edges.

I really love it. It is fresh and gorgeous. Oh, it makes me want to get out my water color things. I am am an artist and teach, as well... but water color is not my expertise. This really inspires me. Thank you so much for sharing.

Lovely, light and definitely right for these gray and dreary winter days. It made me smile. I am happy to see that you're getting to actually DO some artwork, not just teach. Yay!

Blessings,
Christi

I feel like I have my very own personal art gallery here at this blog, and that I have an artist friend. I love seeing all that you create and am always quite impressed with your talent and skills .

I like it - very delicate. What an interesting idea...put blobs of color on the paper and then draw in the flowers with ink! Or at least, that's what it looks like to me as far as the method....looks like lots of fun.

Thanks for your sweet comment. :) Btw, you ought to put your pretty sink photo as your header image. Between your updates, I come here just to scroll to that photo!

Well, that is beautiful! It looks like a Valentine's Day card. And very fresh, like an early May garden.
