New Green Shoots

What I am dreaming of

Today I spent almost the entire day visiting local nursery's.  It was my first "Garden" outing of the year.  I have been in and out of bed with a nasty sinus infection for about two weeks.  The weather has been hideous or I have been sick.  Either way not my ideal way of spending spring days.  Today things were different.  I have my stamina back and the weather has shifted.  My first stop bright and early this morning with a double tall latte in hand, I saw nursery workers starting their day with great big smiles on their faces. Breathing in the intoxicating scents of wafting blossoms, hauling plants out from the greenhouses, receiving truck loads of new product...my goodness they were all excited!  They had been chomping at the bit it seemed as much as I was.  Spring was a slow comer here in our neck of the woods . Today the sun was out, the wind had stopped, the clouds moved on and here we are!

I had my fill of new green shoots, lots of color and fun shopping.  I am at the moment helping out with four other garden plans not including mine.  Dare I tell you how many nurseries I went too...including box stores...9 in total!  I have client plant lists to fill and much to accomplish with my own mess around the pool.  I have been busy ordering roses while lying in bed...five of which arrived today!  I found at one box store a huge fully in bloom lilac bush that rode around in my car all day!  As the scent filled my vehicle I was reminded of my childhood springs in New England.  I can't wait to plant this shrub in Miss Eden and baby Avie's play yard.  I have trained them well to sniff all the lovely blossoms.  As scent is such a memory marker, I have made sure they will have much to remember!

Some of my new roses for this year!
As you can tell from my pictures, I love the romantic old fashion looking roses and their scents. Wait to you see what I have planned for an arbor :)

I personally can hardly wait. The roses are gorgeous!!! I can almost smell them from the whole way across the country where I am. Oh how I wish I could follow you in all your gardening endeavors. Just think how much I could learn from you. I selfishly hope you blog more this summer, so that I can enjoy it all, including your arbor. Welcome back.

I have the same cold right now:(

The old fashioned roses are the best! All your photos --dreaming, plans, etc. are so lovely to gaze upon today!
You sound happily busy in all those gardens.

Oh my! It is looking beautiful over here. You've done a remodel! Sounds as if you had a glorious day visiting the nurseries and that you have big plans for gardens. Are you going into the landscaping business or garden design business? That sounds so like you! Love all these beautiful photos of roses and I hope that you have good luck with uploading your pictures. (I did find Blogger in Draft to be very stable this morning...no lost pictures just as I was about to add them.)

The wind has been driving me crazy!! There's so much to do in my garden, but the weather just has been against me.

So glad you're feeling better, Cindy! The viruses going around this spring seem to hang on like sin.

Are the roses you've featured the ones you picked up in Spokane? A week ago Gary and I were in the Salem area for a family wedding. I made my desire to visit Heirloom Roses known, but knowing he really wanted to get to this well-known microbrewery in Eugene - we went there first. Of course, by the time we left and got near the nursery, they were closed. I told him this will cost him. :D It hasn't yet, but it will, lol.

Judy: I am so sorry...nasty nasty virus! Plan a garden while your down :)

Vee: re landscaping business, I have done a little design work on the side. This time I am bartering for some edging work in my yard and just helping a few friends. I have thought of doing this full time...but I have too many other interests :)
I have reverted to using url addresses for photos...not my first choice by any means, rather use my own from my computer.

Von: Yes the roses are from Northland Rosarium. She delivers a nice product. This was my second order from her and have one more on the way from Roses Unlimited. Gary should pay...maybe in pay dirt...ie work in the garden ;)

They are beautiful roses all! I wonder what the story is of the Liv Tyler rose. It's as lovely as she is, of course. What a cute garden shed; I want one of those...

Aren't garden shops fun at this time of the year?

So true...about scents being big memory markers. I still remember the scent of my grandmother's garden in spring. (And that was a very long time ago!)
