What to do with trouble...

Let not your heart be troubled...it was a little message from God one morning as I was just about to face a new day. Hmmm was it even in the Bible? Yes it was, and I can't tell you how those six simple words have changed my thought patterns for the last three weeks. As I pondered those words, they became a choice I was going to have to make over and over again in the weeks ahead. But the choice NOT to let my heart be troubled proved a great way to navigate...trouble. Sounds awfully simplistic I know, but for me God has used these words to help me grow into a new level of trust in Him.

As I was sharing this with a blogging friend of mine this evening who is facing a whole lot of trouble. I realized it maybe helpful to some other folks out in blogland. We all get to face various levels of trouble at one time or another. Some seasons can get pretty rough...I know. But here is the good news...

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16:33

Let NOT your heart be troubled!
These words are found 2x in John 14

This is so perfect! Time and time again I repeat this powerful verse in my head and heart. I am aware that I have a choice in my troubling times...to believe this verse or not. My only peace comes in the believing it...no matter how it all appears around me. Love that you reinforced this for me today. Thank you!

Wonderful words...and so difficult to take to heart at times. I awoke from a bad dream this morning...which brought back all the resons why I should be 'worrying'. I needed to be reminded that God is greater than all my fears.

Thank you ever so much for this sweet post.

I have dear friend facing an uncertain future (cancer)...we have both been stuggling with the "why"?

I will share this with her and I know it will bless her.

Amen we need never to be troubled with God on our side!

Psalm 112:6-8

6 Surely he will never be shaken;
The righteous will be in everlasting remembrance.
7 He will not be afraid of evil tidings;
His heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.
8 His heart is established;
He will not be afraid..

Came right over after your comment.

The choice as I understand it is to live in faith and trust, and the 'non-troubled' heart comes out of that, otherwise we get into self-effort trying to stop our heart being troubled.

Barbara: Yes I agree it is a trust and faith issue. The self effort thing never works out for me anyway. I either end up with failure and shame or my pride wins out...ugly situation. What I was trying to convey was that God was asking me not to dwell in worry but to trust Him. I have some things that are heavy on my heart right now. Instead of letting the weight of those issues weigh me down by living in a state of worry. I am reminded through this verse to "Let Not your heart be troubled" and give my worry, and the issue back into His hands to carry the burden for me :) To trust Him by faith that He is able!

Sorry to hear that others are in the midst of trouble. It's a grieving thing and a trouble thing and an unsettling thing for sure. I like those words and will share them with my mother who has a little message board and has visitors leave her scriptures and thoughts...this one is perfect. Thank you.

Thanks, too, for your ongoing visits and your prayers. They've certainly made a difference.

Many blessings to you and yours...

This was really a word for me. Having too much on my mind seems to get me troubled and lately I have had to learn to deal with these things one at a time. He's preparing a place for us and that gives me so much comfort. Our world seems to be changing rapidly. I believe there will be a time when we will all find so much comfort in His words and knowing that He is taking care of us.

Oh, this is so true. Yet, when we surrender everything, we struggle to take it back. He gives us peace right in the middle of our adversity. It's just like resting in the eye of the storm. Lovely words and a lovely message.
