A decorative mood or what's on your night stand? Give Away!

It seems with all the winter blah outside, I do focus more on making things cozier on the inside. Today after 3 years I finally found a chair for my bedroom. I had envisioned this chair to be a warm cozy place to snuggle up on. Read my favorite books in. View my garden from in summer, (it is a dreary mess right now) a place to watch a good Jane Austin movie with a cup of tea. And of course a place to read some bees (books) to Puddin Toes. So here is a peek at my new chair.
My new best friend Natalie =] over at Real Deals in Kennewick, WA helped me find this lovely chair. The ceramic pear is also from her shop.

While I was photographing the chair, I noticed the books on my nightstand, and decided to do a shot of them.

It made me wonder what was on other people's nightstands to read?????

In honor of my good friend Nadine Zawacki and her first recently published book Prisoner of Circumstance, I am doing a Give Away!
So if you would like to share about what you are reading right now, let me know by next Saturday 2/7 and I will post a link to your "Nightstand Post" from my place for the following Monday 2/9. Simply by posting and sharing about "What is on Your Nightstand" you will be entered into my Give Away for Nadine's new book.

By the way I had the privilege of reading her first draft, and I can't wait to pick up my signed copy this week and an extra copy for the winner of this Give Away. It could be you :] I believe I may actually be able to get another signed copy. So by participating in this Give Away you may win a wonderful book and we will all get some new reading material ideas. If you don't win, you can always pick up a copy of her book on Amazon, and guess what they are saying if you liked The Shack, you will like her book...that's so cool! I am so proud of my friend.

Don't forget to let me know if and when you are posting by Saturday the 7th.
You can post anytime during the week, and I will just link to that particular post.
I will post the links and the winner on Monday's 2/9 post.

So here is what is on my nightstand, and an example of what I am talking about:

I found this great old book at the library yesterday called Yakima by Inez Noel Johnson, published in 1954. It is a story about a WWI vet coming home to the west. Yakima just happens to be the valley down the road a bit from us. I am always drawn to local historical novels. On top you can see I am also reading one of my Elizabeth Goudge finds from last summer, The Child from the Sea. This is about the fourth book of hers I have read this winter. I better slow down or I will run out. I am also trying an English mystery, by Robin Paige, Death on the Lizard. I don't know why, but I only seem to read English mysteries set in the countryside. And I think I am on my last Karen Kingsbury novel Divine. She is a Christian author whose best books I think were about 9/11 One Tuesday Morning, and Beyond Tuesday Morning.
Just a little piece of blogging business. I have noticed this new gadget around the blogging community. I thought I would try it out. If you would like to have and easy feed to my blog you just need to go to the top of the sidebar and add yourself to this nifty new little gizmo.

PS (YOUR reading nook looks elegant, yet deliciously quiet and comfortable! Maybe I should create a reading nook like that for myself, rather than just reading in the middle of traffic on the sofa with kids squeezing in on either side (not that I would give THAT up--but, a little SOLO reading would be really nice, too!)! Hope you have many hours of enjoyment in your beautiful new retreat!)

Oh I think I just passed over one of Goudge's books at the flea market thinking that her first name could not be Elizabeth. Good grief! I have got to keep a notebook with me at all times.

Big surprise, I'm currently reading "a Whisper in Winter" and finishing up "The Memory Keeper's Daughter."

Your new chair is beautiful and just looks great in that spot. I know that you must be in the middle of rainy gray days as John often checks to see what his daughter is enduring out there in Washington state. It seems so rare to see a sunny day there right now. I'm sorry because incessant rain gets on the nerves. The Lord keeps you all keeping on...

Congrats to your friend! I want to check out her book more.

I wanted to actually respond to your post of 1/30/09 "a word in season" to say AMEN. If we ontinue steady on when the times are hard, and don;t run from the trial God will show himself to be faithful, and he will complete a work we otherwise would never know. Thanks for your kind word. But why did this not appear on your blog page?

Me? I am just returning from some time away in Florida... highs in the low 80s and a very wonderful Christian leadership conference. I am doing well to just get caught up on my blogging. LOL. One of these days I hope to have a stack of books on my nightstand that I actually read!

Blessings,
Christi

What a lovely spot to be able to sit by your window so close to your garden from y our bedroom. Elizabeth Goudge is the icing on the cake.

I guess I can do a bedside post in a couple of days. Willconfirm with y ou when done. I have spent too much time already today o n my computer and blog.

I have thought about doing the widget but am also wondering just how much room it would take up on my sidebar and I think the link takes you to only the one post, am I right? I do like scrolling through people's blogs rather than just the one. Anyhow I am considering but not rushing into it.

About the followers gadget, I don't know much. I thought by trying it I would be able to figure it out a little bit better. I apparently had two followers I didn't even know about, that appeared when I installed the widget. The other thing I have noticed is that on my Dashboard, I have two different folks that appear there, that I have apparently been following. I can't even remember doing it, but oh well =/ When reading info about it on my Dashboard, they suggested to blog about it if you were going to do one, so people would try it. I am learning as I go here :)

Maybe somebody else will help explain it to us???

What a fabulous idea! I'm posting on this.....should be on my blog tomorrow. I just took some pics and am putting it together.

Ah, Elizabeth Goudge, one day I will find one of your books and enjoy reading you! Sigh.....in the meantime the hunt continues. Yakima sounds interesting....the local angle makes it more intriguing for you, I'm sure.

BTW, terrific new photos of puddin toes here....she is growing into quite the lovely young lady indeed...

p.s. that chair looks super comfy. Excellent choice, I'd say. I can relate to the 3 year search. I just found a hall table after a 3 year search too.

Great idea! And your reading nook looks very comfy - I like the chair.

It's about time I posted on some books; I'll do a bedside table post soon. Guess I'm too late for your drawing but that's okay.

I've seen that widget around too. How do you like it? I may get around to installing it one of these days.

Hi - to answer your question, yes, I have read A Diary of Prayer....it goes through one year, day by day, with one or two prayers each day. I used it last year as on of my devotional reading books. There are some wonderful prayers I found in there.

I love the chair and the nook area that you have set up. It looks very inviting! And a tea service as well - love the pear. It really is the little touches that add such a warm feeling.

I will have my book post up by the end of today...thank you for the invitation.
