Wine & Roses

Moulinex
I had to add these shots in as I just recieved them from Meg...she takes such wonderful pictures...you will know when you come to my point and shoot pic's.

John like a monkey climbing up to the top of his barrels to siphon off a taste for us.
Yesterday was Ashley' s birthday party, and she wanted to go learn how to do a wine tasting. With the family we went to Wine O'clock for a birthday lunch smack dab in the middle of Vinter's Village in Prosser. Then after cake and presents we proceeded to do our first wine tasting. I suggested Coyote Canyon because our friend had blended their wine this spring and had won all kinds of awards. Double gold on some of his bottles. As it turned out my friend John Gabriel was there. He sat with us through the wine tasting and afterwards invite our group out to do some barrel tasting from his personal stock. Remember the grape harvest we participated in? Click here too see Well yesterday we got to taste the wine from that harvest. It was a syrah and still needs one year in the barrels to complete the process. We got to tasted 7 of John' s different designer wines. Below are pictures of what that actually looks like.
glass raised to receive the freshly siphoned wine

Rinsing our glasses in the warehouse to taste the white wines.
I can't tell you how delicious his white wines were. We were all so surprised by the quality of the late harvest viognier and the ice wine blend...tasted just like a fresh pineapple...mmmm delish.

Pappa Dave hanging out with Avey

It was a very good day!
Our birthday girl Ashley is the young dark haired gal. Her mother and her on the right is Megan's mother in law. We always crack up about the hair coloring and who looks like who's daughter. Meg and I are on the left :)

Here is the entrance to Heirloom Roses Sales Cottage
Looking down the road on either side we see their display gardens going on and on and on...

I feel in love with this rose High Sheriff unfortunately it was not for sale this year

These are my purchases from this year, starting with the beautiful yellow rose at the top of the post Moulinex
This rose apparently loves our heat.

Abbaye De Cluny

Gentle Giant

Brides Dream

Pristine

This is another rose I fell in love when I was there. This is Louise Clements and she is a stunner blooming so well in all this heat. Unfortunately they had no stock left this year .

Another Romantica rose I would like to buy after seeing it growing is Augusta Renoir

This rose I would have never considered by just seeing a catalogue picture which this is, but when viewing it growing High Sheriff is now number one on my list for next year. If you click on the picture way above of High Sheriff you can see what it really looks like.

Our trip to Heirloom took us out of our way a bit, but the three hours I spent there seeing the roses growing and the invaluable help I had from their lovely staff well made the trip worth it.

I am sitting here blogging when I have a ton of housework to get too :))) Company coming from back east and yes my one and only dear sister. So I probably will be on a bit of a posting vacation. Hopefully I will make my rounds to get caught up on all your blogs though. Blessings my blogging friends...

Looks like so much fun! Love that you shared pictures of your fun time together, and the roses were exquisite!! Oh, how I would love to grow some that looked just like those. Hopefully, we will someday get to see yours. Wishing you and your family from the East, a great time visiting.

Just popping back to answer your question - no it's not the first time we've met, but it was the first time that The Great Dane met our friends from the Fraser Valley.

I love seeing these beautiful roses. They always make me want to paint. It is just too hot here most of the summer to have really stunning roses, but that hasn't kept me from trying. I only have hybrid teas and a couple of knockout roses. The knockouts actually do pretty well in our heat. But, I'd love to have some heirloom varieties. Thanks for the beautiful pictures.

Blessings,
Christi

Wonderful pictures. I would love to be able to grow those kinds of roses. I have never tried, just always heard they were a lot of work to keep nice. I sure don't want a beautiful specimen to end up with bug holes all over it.
