Mmm mmm Good!

I got to spend a whole day with Miss Puddin Toes
One of the fun things we did was bake a cake
Do you remember when chocolate was this guilt free?

Chocolate zucchini cake to be exact...this one is from my mom's recipe box.  It is still a family favorite!

 Chocolate Zucchini Cake

1/2 c butter
1/2 c oil
1 3/4 c sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c sour milk (you can add 1 tsp. of vinegar to milk)
2 1/2 c flour
1/3 c coco powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. of salt
2 c of shredded zucchini
1/2 bag of chocolate chips

Cream butter, oil, sugar, add eggs, milk & vanilla, blend in the rest of the ingredients.  Stir in zucchini and  2/3 of the chips in the batter, sprinkle the rest on top.  Bake 325 for 45 minutes or so.

This cake should be very moist and chocolatey mmmm.  The little bits of spice turns this one up a notch for me.

It is amazing how doing such a simple thing with a four year old turns into such a special moment.  She helped me every step of the way, pouring in every ingredient and remarking on every scent.  My first grandchild is going to pre-school next week, and I am a little sad...oh how very silly of me  ;)

I love how you said she remarked on every scent! The wonders of discovering life again with a little child! And I feel your sadness at the going to school ... they grow up so quickly! Wonderful pictures! Feel like I'm right there with you! Have a wonderful weekend,

dotsie

This is one of the cutest posts ever! And, on top of that I have four lonely zucchini just waiting to produce a few inches on my hips, so this recipe will do the trick, won't it? Seriously, I am thrilled with the recipe. Old tried and true recipes are the best. Thanks for adding some cheer to my day. What a good grandma you are.

How they grow. Just look at Miss Puddin toes. Also a reminder of how long we have been blogging together.
Having Oliver again next week 3 nights.

Fun times! I love baking with my grands and I love it when they tell me that they enjoy it, too. Puddin' Toes' face tells plenty!

I have to tell you that whenever I say to John, "Come here I have something cute to show you," he responds with, "Puddin' Toes?" Won't he be surprised when today is his lucky day?!

Adorable!

What wonderful memories will your little one have of such precious kitchen doings. I was born late in life to my mother (at 42), and she often perched me near her as she cooked & baked. The memory of it still blesses me!

Those bowl lickin days in grandma's kitchen are oh so fun! Looks like a good recipe....I've been given a jumbo zucchini I need to use.
