My Mother's Day Gift

Last night we celebrated my daughter's graduation from Washington State University. My middle child is the very first one to graduate on my side of the family. I can't tell you how very proud I am of her. My father and mother both came from second generation immigrant families, Irish and Italian. My folks worked so very hard to make a better life for all of us. My dad spent almost a decade going to night school to further himself in this world, one quarter short of a college degree he got offered a job in management and just couldn't finish. But he did reach his goal. He brought both my sister and I up "in a manner in which we well grew accustom to." This is a bit of an inside family joke. My Dad used those words when my husband asked for my hand in marriage. :) We were not rich but we had everything we needed and most of what we wanted.

I ended up getting married pretty young in life to the sweetest man on the planet. I managed to finish two years of college, but when push came to shove, we just needed to get my husband through school. Then the babies came and I was pretty content to dedicate my life to raising my kids. You see in order for my parents to get established, both my parents worked while I was growing up. Noni stayed home with us while my parents provided. So I felt privileged and blessed to be able to stay home, raise my children and even home school them. When my daughter in turn got married a year earlier than I had at 19. My one concern was that she would be able to finish her degree before her family became her life. She finished her AA but then needed to go to work while her husband was finishing his degree. When he landed his first job, she continued to work and take some part time classes... things were going a bit slow. January 2007 she decided to quit her job and go to school full time. The Sat. after her last day of work, she had a dream. In her dream a man spoke to her and told her to take a pregnancy test. She did and to her astonishment she was pregnant with little Puddin Toes. Well she decided it is now or never, so she went full time to school all the way through her pregnancy and when the baby was born last August she went to on to complete the last of her classes on line. So there you have it!

As she was walking out to the podium there was a little surprise in store for her. My son in law who works in a building right on campus made her a special sign he displayed for her in his office windows...

building on left...Megan starts to look up...she is the blond third from the left

It was a very sweet gesture!!!!!!!!!!!

It was a very special day indeed, and a very special gift for me, to see my daughter finish and accomplish so very much! Megan...Puddin Toes...Papa

Way to go Megan!!!! We are so proud of her too. She wears many hats now and I must say she wears them all VERY WELL!

You and Danny have done an amazing job in raising her to be what she is today Cindy, I know because of her faith in the Lord, she is who she is, but because of your love and guideness, she is a strong and loving young woman of God.

Job well done!

Sis
