A Bit of a Rant...

Quick pic taken with cell phone
If your into reading a more cheerful weekend account, I won't blame you for moving on to the next blog with your morning coffee.

I had meant to finish blogging about the rest of our lovely relaxing vacation...I am just not up to it yet. I have lost all the benefit of my peaceful and restful vacation. We came home late Friday afternoon after a wonderful stop in Portland for the day...more on that later in the week when I can get my sanity back and my camera from down stairs.

Okay already you are saying. Those of you still with me here this is how my weekend has gone. Friday night we came home all refreshed and relaxed. Megan was anxious to come hang out with us for the evening since hubby was away. As we were sitting around the great room Megan gave out a YEEK, and started grabbing babies. It turns out she saw a mouse. A fairly good sized one. So we quickly picked up babies and secured them. Megan kept watch to make sure the mouse didn't go anywhere else while I went looking for a bucket to trap him with. Yeah I know stupid idea. =O Anyways...I called Dan home from a friends house to help. He gets out the shop vac and thinks maybe he can suck it up...are you really laughing now? It's a no go. So Dan goes to the store to get mouse traps and decon and we move to the back porch and visit. He goes back to his friends to watch a movie. Looooooooooooooong story short. There was more than one mouse. As I was watching TV later I saw about three scurrying around. Okay that is it till Dan gets home I am going to hold up in my bedroom. This proved not to be very helpful as I am sitting on my bed, another mouse scurries by. Stomach is now getting nauseous. I am not doing well. One mouse is one thing an invasion has me sick. Dan finally gets home to find me a wreak on the bed afraid to walk on the floor. I end up moving upstairs to the guest bedroom for the night with the door crack barricaded with books. I seriously wanted to go to a hotel. I couldn't fall asleep till after 3:00 am. We did finally catch one mouse just as I felt it was safe to go back to the bedroom this morning to get ready for church...

Sooooo we have an exterminator coming Monday morning and today we went and got a new cat! I am not kidding. We looked on Craig's list and found the perfect kitty. Three years old and house trained. I am keeping her with me in every room I go in. She is a sweet little gal named Mara. She is a calico which is our favorite kind of kitty. She is the only way I can stand to stay in the house while Dan is gone. I know I am a big baby...and this story will be funny a week from now...I am just not there yet :((((((((((((((((((((((((

From... A woman who is.....barricaded in the upstairs bedroom....OH MY!

Okay after rereading this post I am looking for a silver lining...and I think the new kitty may be it. After loosing Bella last fall I was reluctant to get a new cat (weak smile)

Now you have me smiling! I've had to deal with mice in the old farmhouse...and also called in an exterminator on one occasion. But I was thinking of the time a bat flew in through an open window...it was a 'flying mouse'. I was home alone...and fled the house! Enjoy the new cat...and may she do a wonderful job of keeping the mice away.

At least you're still smiling! You've got me laughing out loud. And now I learn that I should not grumble about two cats in the house being shuffled all the time. I should be grateful for an upstairs and a downstairs exterminator. Best wishes getting rid of those pesky things. I hate'm too! (My word verification today? chils...ha!)

The cat is gorgeous! Maybe the mice were God's way of saying you needed to adopt this cat.

I had friends who returned from vacation to discover little baby skunks scurrying about the house.

Now THAT'S funny!!!

Oh Cindy....I remember well when we had mice in the house. Poor Oliver tried to get them, but he had no front claws. Still -he trapped them for me until I could throw something over them and get them outside. We finally figured they had come in on some furniture that we had bought that had been sitting in a storeroom somewhere.

You have my pity, my friend! I'd be freaked out too!

OMG. I believe I have written on my blog before that I absolutely HATE mice and rats. No hate is not a strong enough word for how I feel about them. Bless your heart! I don't blame you for not being able to sleep. I pray the exterminator takes care of them quick.Maybe the Lord let you get all rested up and have a nice time to get you prepared for the invasion. Cats are wonderful and especially if they are 'mousers'. I pray it is taken care of immediately.

I so identify with your post...it seems that every spring and fall during the planting and harvesting of the corn in the fields that surround the house, the mice seem to find their way into "MY SPACE!" This is usually met with a frenzied competition by the men in our household - husband, son & son-in-law - as to the catching...crazy men running around with buckets and brooms - more exciting than paintball they tell me. But, it usually gives me a sleepless night or tow, and a fair share of hysteria.....all that to say that I completely understand the want of a hotel. Better days ahead.

This post made me smile. I'm glad you found a new protector in Mara. She's beautiful. Hopefully she alleviates the mouse problem. I'm personally not afraid of mice but I know it was a surprise for me earlier this summer to see one sitting on our couch in the livingroom while we were watching television. Our trusty kitty took care of that problem straight away! Hope you have free range of your house very soon! ~Kathy

Oh dear...that is my fear. I would be the same way!

Seems while you were away, the mice did play!

I'm sure your new kitty will be your silver lining! Blessings and prayers~~

LOL...I can just see you freaking out! Oh you poor thing...well I hope "Mara" does her job well before we all show up!! Now wouldn't that be something having all of us there and mice too!! LOL

So how many did you have??? Wonder how they got in? :/

Good luck sis!!!!

The mice try to settle into our house in the fall each year, and each year I am horrified! The Great Dane goes to war with the little critters and our terrier Rosie is his able assistant. They exterminate and I disinfect and sanitize because I am paranoid about mouse-borne disease. I felt for you with this post!
Loved your second installment on Cannon Beach. I'd love to go back today, as the thermometer is inching towards 30 in the shade. When I get to Portland I must look up the Real Deal store - sounds like my kind of place.

My husband would truly have to smile if he read this post. I cannot tell you how much I can relate to your fear and total dislike of mice. I could write a book about what happened in this home, this past winter. We then signed a contract with the exterminator and he put 16 stations around our house to get rid of the creatures. So far it has worked. A cat would not work in this family, but it sure was a smart move in yours. Loved all of your Cannon Beach photos.

Oh my, a mouse invasion! I'll be checking back for reports on a mouse-free house...

Mara is a lovely kitty with an equally lovely name. I smiled when you said she is house broken....cats are pretty much born house broken...just show them the litter box once (if you use a litter box), or let them outside when they meow at you with hopeful glances at the door!!

Someday I'll tell you about the live mouse Miss Kitty brought home for me as a gift.

Been there and done that. Especially the 'getting rid of--without delay' part! Best of luck, and yes, they will soon be gone.....

My sympathies and best wishes.

Loved all the holiday and beach photos but so sorry you all got sick. Not nice any time but far worse when away from home.

As always lovely pics of puddin toes but I won't mention the mice!
